Leeteg Black Velvet

This is a rare original oil painting on black velvet by the world famous Edgar Leeteg of Tahiti.
Described as one of the true Rascals in Paradise by James A. Michener in his 1957 best selling book, Leeteg was the real deal and his paintings went on to sell for many thousands of dollars in Hawaii and beyond.
The official agent for his work was the Davis Gallery in Honolulu, and their sticker is on the back of this painting. Paniola, Hawaiian Cowboy Measures 72cm x 60cm, and still has it's original '50s timber frame also. A version of this work features in Leeteg biographies and coffee table books.
Condition Very good for an early velvet with some degree of fading and wear to the fabric which is to be expected. Frame is also in great condition.
Comment Original Leetegs rarely come on the market and this is a great collectable example!
