In 1956 a crew of visiting American surfers led by Greg Noll put on a series of surfing demonstrations, as part of the Melbourne Olympic program, and introduced Australia to the Balsa board.

These lighter, more maneuverable boards were shorter than the familiar toothpicks of the time - measuring around 9'6" - and led to an explosion of the wave riding scene across the country.

Now, fifty odd years on we are in the grips of a wood revival. Board builders and surfers everywhere are discovering that indeed Wood Is Good.

Lightweight and a joy to ride, these wooden treasures using a variety of natural, plantation and recycled timbers are back, more popular than ever, and definitely here to stay.
